“Building a Real-time News Alerting Platform” by Bloomberg

April 28, 2017

Join us for a fascinating talk by Daniel Collins, Software Engineer for Bloomberg in London!

Search Engines are a relatively well-known and well understood topic, but how many people need to build a real-time alerting platform on top of one?

Large scale subscriptions, high volume of story flow, sub-second Latency requirements and a scalable Java platform using open source search engine technology. Hear about the journey migrating an alerting system from a proprietary platform to an open-source one (Apache Solr/Luwak), the benefits we found and some of the issues met along the way. This talk will also touch on the search platform migration.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and meet some of our engineers to understand how technology is at the core of what Bloomberg does.

We will also run a one to one workshop session on CVs and how to write the best Tech CV for an internship abroad.

Join us at Centre Pierre Guillaumat – Amphi L103 at 1pm.

Some food will be served!
